Visiting Koh Ker requires a bit of preparation. The site is a 120-kilometer drive from Siem Reap, and the dense jungle environment means you need the right clothing and gear.
Is there a dress code for Koh Ker?
Yes. You must cover your shoulders and knees to enter the temples.
Guards strictly enforce this rule at all ancient monuments in Cambodia. A T-shirt and long pants or a skirt that falls below the knee work well. Do not wear tank tops or short shorts, or you will be denied entry.
What kind of shoes should I wear?
Wear sturdy, closed-toe walking shoes.
Koh Ker features uneven stone paths and thick forest terrain. You will also climb a modern wooden staircase to reach the top of the 36-meter Prasat Thom pyramid. Sandals or flip-flops are not recommended.

What do I need to pack for the sun and jungle?
Bring sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, and insect repellent.
The top of the Prasat Thom pyramid is completely exposed to the sun. Apply sunscreen and wear a hat for the climb. The surrounding ruins sit deep in the forest, so apply insect repellent to avoid mosquito bites.

How much cash should I bring?
Bring enough USD to cover your ticket, food, and restrooms.
The standalone Koh Ker entrance ticket costs $15 USD for adults. You will also need small bills for local food stalls and bathroom facilities. There are no ATMs at the remote archaeological site.

What else should be on my packing list?
Pack plenty of drinking water, a camera, and extra batteries.
- Water: Options to buy drinks are limited once inside the ruins.
- Camera: Bring extra batteries, as there are no charging stations on site.
- Passport: Children under 12 need a valid passport to get free entry.
- Rain gear: Bring a light rain jacket or umbrella if visiting between May and October.
Questions travellers ask
Is Koh Ker included in the Angkor Pass?
No. Koh Ker requires a separate $15 USD entrance fee for adults. It is not included in the standard Angkor Pass.
Can you climb the pyramid at Koh Ker?
Yes. A modern wooden staircase allows visitors to safely climb to the top of the 36-meter, seven-tiered Prasat Thom pyramid.
Are there still landmines at Koh Ker?
Some surrounding jungle areas are not fully demined. You must stay on the clearly marked paths at all times.
